City Overview
Chongxiao (重霄) is the second metropolis of ANANTA and one of the dual-city world officially highlighted after Gamescom. Inspired by Hangzhou (West Lake, Leifeng Pagoda, Longjing village) and Shanghai (Oriental Pearl, the Bund skyline, Wukang Road), it is a sky-city blending traditional scenery and a modern skyline. Expanding the map scale, Chongxiao opens up new roles and more recruitable citizens, forming the other pole of the dual-city world.
Content Scale
The September 14, 2026 developer interview with AUTOMATON (relayed by Gamersky and others) confirmed that every city, Chongxiao included, will offer no fewer than 100 hours of playable content. By our story archive, none of the six documented Volume 1 chapters is set here yet — Chongxiao’s current showcase is its NPC ecosystem, life activities and kung-fu systems. When its main story arrives awaits official announcements.
A Land-Sea-Sky Map
Chongxiao’s map spans three dimensions:
- Land: cars, motorcycles, skateboards, shared bikes and metro
- Water: speedboats and yachts
- Air: helicopters, hang gliders and flying cars
The vertical transport lets players roam freely across viaducts, water and sky, greatly increasing exploration density.
100+ Interactive NPCs
Chongxiao hosts more than 100 NPCs, each with independent story and side quests; some citizens can be recruited into the A.C.D., enriching social and progression content.
Life & Combat
- Life-sim: cinemas, mahjong parlors, arcades, cat cafés, gyms, restaurants, clothing stores and open-air hot springs
- Combat: deeply integrates practical martial arts such as Shaolin; players can apprentice to street masters for more real-world techniques
- Dual-city link: together with Nova City, it forms the official “two cities, one epic adventure” world
Story Role
Beyond being the stage of the second-city open world, Chongxiao carries key protagonist plotlines — the protagonist’s hometown “Lingyun” lies within Chongxiao’s area (also known as “Chongxiao·Lingyun”), an important stage for the protagonist’s growth and search for family.
Featured District: Longqi Village (Dragon Roost / 龍栖村)
Longqi Village is a representative settlement under Chongxiao, built around an old temple into a community passed down the generations. Its protector Yinglong (Wei Yinglong), who calls herself the 21st Director, is hailed by the villagers as the “Queen of Dragon Roost.” She runs the temple, looks after the children living there, and keeps the village safe with a firm hand. With its preserved folk customs and architecture, the village is a key spot for experiencing Chongxiao’s countryside culture and a signature showcase of the game’s tribute to small-town life. The Chinese character form of this village name is not consistent across press: 4Gamer 2026-08-28, GamerSky 2026-09-11, and 9game 2026-08-28 all write 龙栖村 (media mainstream); a TapTap post uses 龙溪村; 17173 2026-09-05 uses 龙七村 (likely a typo). Our own archive had used 龙旗村 since August 2026; with the 2026-10-05 gamescom hands-on article, all displayed text on this wiki is unified to the media-mainstream 龙栖村. The English romanisation “Longqi Village” is unchanged because it doubles as pinyin for both 龙栖 (qī) and 龙旗 (qí), so no URL/slug migration or 301 redirect is required. NetEase has never published an official Chinese character or English romanisation for this village — we won’t invent one.
Six New Interactions from the gamescom 2026 Dragon Roost Hands-On (added 2026-10-05)
Hands-on coverage from 4Gamer (2026-08-28, via livedoor), 17173 (2026-09-05), GamerSky (2026-09-11), and 9game (2026-08-28) documents six concrete interactions inside the Dragon Roost exploration segment:
- Peek at NPC phones: run an NPC over, their phone drops, pick it up to read their live chat log, and toss it on the spot if you want.
- Ring toss with no reticle: hold the trigger to charge the throw; there is no aim cursor — distance is judged by eye.
- Manhole-cover prank: fling a loose cover at a chatting villager and they nearly topple off their chair mid-conversation.
- Mochi pounding + sign punching: daily-life actions and “throw-me” props coexist in the same scene.
- Phone-controlled time of day: the in-fiction smartphone lets you jump to evening, at which point the entire village’s lighting and sky shift to sunset.
- Unauthorised driving, side-slope climbing, gyro tea-pan-frying: take a parked car directly, use dedicated climb-and-jump moves off the main road, and pan-fry tea leaves via the controller’s gyroscope (a nod to the real Longjing tradition of Hangzhou rendered as a hand-held action, not just a backdrop).
All six items are media-observed in the demo build, not enumerated in any official NetEase / Naked Rain press release. Whether each mechanic ships at launch is still pending official confirmation. See our 2026-10-05 four-language deep dive “ANANTA Dragon Roost Village Hands-On: 6 New Interactions”.
Chongxiao in the gamescom Hands-On Coverage (added 2026-09-26)
At gamescom 2026 the Japanese outlet 4Gamer was walked through the build by two Naked Rain staff and published an interview (dated September 2, 2026) that leaves several directly quotable details about Chongxiao:
- Reading and framing: the article furigana-annotates the city as “Chongxiao (ちょうしょう)” and lists it alongside “Xinqi” (our Nova City) as the game’s two modern Asian city stages.
- Landmark spotting: in the demo the editor picked out a tower cradling a golden sphere, an upturned glass tower and a purple-lit sphere tower, and explicitly as his own guess mapped them to Shanghai’s Jing’an Temple area, Hangzhou’s Leifeng Pagoda and the Oriental Pearl Tower; the official press release line is that the game’s cities draw on Shanghai, Hangzhou and Tokyo.
- Street life: the lakeside area was built out with tea fields, hand-roasting tea and rice-cake pounding (餅つき); the piece also notes Hangzhou’s recent robot industry, with a robot walking through the streets in-game.
- Why “Hangzhou melted into Shanghai”: 4Gamer points out that Naked Rain has studios in Hangzhou, China and Montreal, Canada, and attributes part of Chongxiao’s blended look to that (see our Naked Rain entry).
- Combat read-out: kung-fu-based action where, beyond your own gear, you can use surrounding objects and disarm enemies; evade, guard and counter can be combined into a personal style, and a telekinesis system is part of the kit (see our Environmental Combat term and “Five Combat Mechanics”).
Note: those landmark correspondences are the reporter’s on-site guesses, never confirmed one by one by the developer. We keep them separated from official wording rather than presenting them as canon.
