Nova City Panorama

Overwhelmed by all the terminology before you’ve even started the game? Chaos, Chaos Entities, Rifts, Superhumans, Meteor… what does it all mean? Don’t worry — this article breaks down the core worldview of Infinite Trigger in plain language so you can step into Nova City with a solid understanding.

Nova City: Where It All Begins

Nova City is a bustling coastal metropolis and the setting for the entire game. On the surface, it’s a gleaming urban paradise — but underneath, it’s riddled with danger. A supernatural energy known as Chaos is slowly eating away at the city.

The city is divided into three major districts:

  • Central Business District — Skyscrapers, corporate headquarters, and the home of the A.C.D. — the city’s “heart”
  • Old Town — A vibrant neighborhood full of street life, night markets, and narrow alleys hiding untold secrets
  • Coastal Zone — Open shoreline and a high-risk area where large Chaos Rifts appear frequently

Six Core Concepts

1. Chaos

Chaos is a supernatural energy of unknown origin that manifests through Rifts scattered across Nova City. It’s the root cause of all supernatural phenomena in this world.

  • Chaos energy can grant humans superpowers (Superhuman awakening)
  • Chaos energy can also twist living beings and objects into dangerous Chaos Entities
  • Chaos energy is categorized into multiple power levels, from low to high

In short: Chaos = a double-edged sword that can empower or destroy everything.

2. Chaos Entities

Abnormal creatures formed when living things are corrupted and warped by Chaos energy. They’re the most common enemy type in the game, classified by threat level:

LevelThreatTypical Traits
Low-Tier Chaos EntityModerateSmall size, weak attacks, solo-able
Mid-Tier Chaos EntityHighHas special abilities, requires squad coordination
Fury-Tier Chaos EntityExtremeDevastating power, can paralyze an entire city block
?UnknownThe story hints at threats beyond known classifications

3. Rifts

Channels through which Chaos energy pours into the real world, appearing as spatial tears across Nova City. Rifts are almost always accompanied by the spawning of Chaos Entities.

  • Rift frequency is increasing (this is a major plot point in the main story)
  • Closing Rifts is one of the A.C.D.’s core missions
  • Some hidden Rifts contain precious Chaos Crystals

4. Superhumans

Ordinary people who awaken superpowers after being exposed to Chaos energy. All playable characters in the game are Superhumans.

  • Awakening triggers vary (some through Rifts, others through contact with Chaos Crystals)
  • Each Superhuman’s abilities are unique
  • Superhumans must learn to control their powers — otherwise, Chaos can consume them

5. Meteor Force

A mysterious power that stands in opposition to Chaos. If Chaos is destruction, then Meteor Force is the guardian of order.

  • Meteor Force is an effective counter to Chaos
  • Dila’s attacks draw on Meteor-related abilities
  • The full origin and nature of Meteor Force have yet to be revealed in the story

6. Infinite Trigger

Captain’s codename/title within the A.C.D., representing the highest-ranking Superhuman investigator. This name is also the origin of the game’s title, “Infinite Trigger.”

A.C.D. (Anti-Chaos Directorate)

Captain

Officially known as the Anti-Chaos Directorate — Nova City’s government-run agency for handling supernatural incidents. Think of them as the world’s “paranormal special forces.”

Core Responsibilities:

  • Contain Rifts — Detect and close Chaos Rifts
  • Eliminate Chaos Entities — Destroy Chaos monsters threatening the city
  • Register Superhumans — Integrate awakened Superhumans into the management system

Internal Structure:

The Anti-Chaos Task Force (ACTF) is the A.C.D.’s core operational unit, which Captain is tasked with taking over at a critical moment. At the start of the story, the Task Force is on the verge of disbandment — the office is a mess, morale is gone, and only Rich remains standing.

Captain’s mission isn’t just to fight monsters — he must rebuild this team, gradually recruiting Taffy, Thermo, Mechanika, and others to form the core squad known as the “Yeet Squad.”

Main Story Synopsis

The current main story begins with Volume 1: “New Sheriff in Town”:

Prologue: Captain travels alone to Nova City to assume his post, only to encounter a Fury-Tier Chaos Entity rampaging through the streets. Acting on instinct, he uses his tentacles to swing through the city skyline, grabbing street signs and car wreckage to obliterate the creature — becoming an overnight internet sensation before even reporting for duty.

Upon arriving at the A.C.D. headquarters, he discovers it’s worse than he imagined: a dilapidated office, a demoralized team, and only Rich holding the fort. Captain makes a declaration on the spot: “This Directorate… starting today, I’m cleaning it up.”

What follows is a red-hot story of rebuilding — from a “one-man army” to an elite squad, from mopping up low-tier Chaos Entities to facing city-level threats head-on.
